Pieces of Me

I wander through the yard...picking up pieces of myself.
They scattered in the wind some time ago.
Now I collect them and try to fit them together again.
I can only hope that I find the ones I need.

The pieces of me mend together.
I feel myself growing stronger.
They scattered for a reason.
Because what mends that has been broken is stronger.

The Seed

When the trumpets sounded
She listened
And heard the great thunder that they made
It wasn't hard

Then she summoned her troops
And called the guards
To her fortress
They would protect her with their lives

It wasn't a mistake that she was caught
Caught in the fortress that she made
Where trouble was frequent
And chaos reigned supreme

It was only by chance that she escaped
At the last second
With nothing to her name
Save a single seed

Sweet Love

When you curl up on his lap.
And he holds you.
There is nowhere to go.
You are where you need to be.

I love him.
With all my heart.
I want forever.
He wants forever.

Close and then closer.
Nice and then nicer.
Sweet and then sweeter.
Love is a promise between two people.

Fatal Speed

Maximum velocity can be fatal
Go one mph too fast and you may die
Feel the fat scraping off your bones
Your hair ripping back from your skull

Death by speed
Is like diving off the Golden Gate
Before you know it it's too late
Your skin is coming away from flesh

Running so fast you feel faint
Dying a little every day
We fight the pain away
To decorate our hearts with

Trophies of the races we ran
The fights we fought
The small deaths we died
And the apologies we made to our friends and foes

Never forget what you have heard
Never forget what you have seen
Never forget what you have felt
And never forget those you have loved deeply...even strangers...

God

Today God found out I existed.
He never consciously knew I've been here for 27 years.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, or in a corner of his heart, he felt me.
But he wasn't truly aware of me until today.
He looked at me with surprise.

He knew I was one of his children.
But such a strange example.
And how had I done it?
Without him even knowing?
He was very confused.

God came to me on a sunny day dressed as some vagrant.
His beard was full and partially white.
His face dirty and sun-kissed.
He wore soiled, tattered clothes.
His eyes appeared as a color unknowable to the mortal eye.

One person might see green, another would see blue, and yet another light hazel.
But more than an L.A. vagrant, he looked like he had just come from a journey through the desert with his son.
There was something about his confidence and scrutiny that belayed his age.
He looked at me without fear or apprehension, questioningly.

People tend to think that God knows of every human being alive.
That he thinks of them, or cares about them.
Today I realized that he only notices you if you come to his attention.
If you don't believe in God, that may be because he gives you no attention.
If you want to believe in someone who doesn't care about you, then believe in God.

If you want to get God's attention, then go to the Devil.
The Devil is expert at getting God's attention.
God and the Devil are rivals.
If you are a useful tool to either of them, they will fight over you.
This can be fun, unless you get ripped apart.

I choose to believe in something different.
I refuse to rely on God or the Devil.
I choose not to go to heaven or hell.
And I shall remain here for no one else's purpose, save my own.
When I am done, I will spread my wings and fly away...forever...

Disappeared

The lost souls
With no loved ones
To protect them
Disappear from hospitals, prisons, offices, schools...
Never to return

Where have they gone?
What did they see, hear, witness?
Who experimented on them?
Who cremated their bones into fine ash?
Who will remember these ghosts?

What happened to their right to live?
They were turned into petri dishes for some mad scientist.
When they begged people to listen...
Everyone turned their backs.
Called them crazy.

When they begged God for some respite...
He was mute.
Bodies were needed.
Human subjects...
For the operating table.

A swift injection in the night or day
The staff looked the other way
A quick removal...
Sometimes by ambulance,
Those chariots that are supposed to represent "help"

Be very cautious of your rescuers
For they may be the emissaries of death.
They may be employed by government you have never imagined.
They may be untrue and corrupt.
Deadly killer in the guise of Savior.

Remember what your mother taught you...
Don't go to strangers
Don't trust anyone that you don't know...
And then go farther
Trust no one, for everyone has a threshold.

Go in solitude into the mist
Go in love for your friends and enemies
Go in clarity of heart and mind
Go in totality
Go, for the sake of the children, go

She Explores

She touched the piano keys tentatively, and played a tune from her childhood.
She stood in front of an empty pool and clapped to see how it would sound.
She fingered the storybooks, and licked her finger to turn the pages.
She walked through the rummage sale and played with the tiny carousel.

She plucked a bell,
Looked through loose photographs,
Flipped the pages of a book,
And an owl stared back.

She wanted a doughnut,
"80 cents," said the clerk.
"Mmmmmm, it's delicious." Her mouth was full.
Her red sweater was Scandinavian.

She asked her boyfriend, "Do you like being here?"
"S'okay."
She wanted to hold hands with him,
But he didn't want to.

She wanted to know what he did when he liked someone.
He said, "I like to touch."
He stroked her leg,
And she asked, "Is that all?"

She liked to explore.
